The City of Morgan Hill Recreation Preschool program is currently hiring a Preschool Assistant for the Afternoon Preschool program.
The Preschool Assistant will assist and report to the Preschool Teacher and Preschool Supervisor.
The Preschool Assistant, along with the Preschool Teacher, are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the City of Morgan Hill Recreation Preschool program.
The Preschool Assistant creates a safe and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
Schedule
The hours for this position are Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday from approximately 12:00pm - 4:00pm.
Salary
The pay range for this position is $20.
00 to $21.
00 per hour.
This is a part-time, temporary (non-benefited), seasonal (school-year) position.
Selection Process
Applications will be screened and those applicants determined to have the best experience, skills, and qualifications will be invited for an oral interview.
Prior to appointment, applicant must authorize a reference check.
As a condition of employment, a background check must be completed, including fingerprinting for submission to the Department of Justice, as well as Tuberculosis (TB) screening.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Help set up classroom and prepare room for the day
Set up easel (fill paint, make sure there are plenty of easel shapes and area is clean)
Put out puzzles and games on manipulative table
Help prepare daily art project
Greet students at the front door
Play with students to help them explore their imagination and learn through new materials and activities.
Assist children in solving problems, and support healthy, positive social interactions.
Watch all areas inside the classroom and/or on the playground to ensure safety; if problems arise between children help them the solve the problem
Assist children in an age-appropriate way with challenging tasks: tying shoes, washing hands, putting on jackets, opening food packaging and water bottles, using playground equipment.
Support teacher during circle time by participating in songs and activities.
Assist with clean up of classroom (wipe down tables and chairs, sweep under tables, clean and put away materials).
Qualification Requirements
Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Experience working with children.
12 ECE units (desirable)
Certificates:
Standard First Aid and Safety and CPR certification must be obtained within the first three months of employment (employer paid).
Special Requirements:
Position requires availability of 12-16 hours per week during the school year, at a minimum Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
Applicants must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Applicants must be willing to work occasional evenings or weekends for open house and back-to-school events and staff trainings.
