Description: REPORTS TO: Unit or Site Director and/or Director of Teen Services FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt Department: Operations Performance Profile Source: Teen Intern Clubhouse Locations: Alpha: Cindy Avitia High School, Alum Rock, Levin, Morgan Hill and Smythe PRIMARY FUNCTION A Homework Tutor (Teen Intern) serves as a positive role model and peer support for elementary, middle school and/or high school students.
Homework Tutors (Teen Interns) may work as multi-subject or single-subject tutors in general group or small group settings—or one-to-one.
Specific subject support for middle and high school students may include mathematics, language arts, science and others.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities) - Provide general homework assistance or more intensive multi-subject or single-subject tutoring.
- Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging for young people.
- Ensure student safety by assisting in set up, break down, and ongoing maintenance in an effort to keep the school or community site clean and orderly.
- Identify student needs and communicate to Unit/Site Director and/or Director of Teen Services as appropriate.
- Commit to a full academic year.
- Participate in development activities.
Prepare Youth for Success Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes: - promote and stimulate program participation - help recruit new participants - assist youth with goal setting and skills development - provide guidance and role modeling to members Program Development and Implementation - Effectively implement programs, services and activities for members.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times.
- Prepare periodic activity reports, administer surveys, track progress and make continuous program improvements.
Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - High school student.
- Must be an active Leaders In Training (LIT) program participant.
- GPA of 3.
0 or better.
- If single-subject tutor, must provide evidence of advanced placement with a sustained “A” grade.
- An ability to work with children and/or teens.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Negative TB test.
- Background check clearance.
JOB COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES) KNOWLEDGE Homework Tutors (Teen Interns) must have a demonstrated knowledge of youth development, safe and appropriate activities for youth and an understanding of the culture and community in which the clubhouse is located.

RELATIONSHIPS Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff and volunteers, Club members, and supervisor(s) to receive and provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines, provide instructions, tutor, advise and counsel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Frequent standing and walking; occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds at waist height); hear and understand speech at normal levels; and speak so that others may understand at normal levels.
WORKING CONDITIONS Boys & Girls Clubs are often stressful, busy and noisy environments.
Homework Tutors (Teen Interns) are expected to work in situations where many member and facilities related activities take place at the same time.
