Position Summary The College Counselor is responsible for guiding students through the successful transition to postsecondary education.
The ideal candidate must have knowledge of college admissions and financial aid topics and processes, excellent time management, and outstanding communication skills in all expressions: personal, written, verbal, and technological.
Must be willing to travel several times throughout the year to attend professional development workshops and conferences and to meet and network with representatives from colleges and universities.
Duties and Specific Responsibilities Model for students the mission and values of Presentation High School Meet with students in caseload individually at least twice a year and with families in their junior and senior years, advising and guiding students through the college application and selection process.
Inform students, families, and staff of current college admissions policies, procedures, and deadlines.
Provide assistance and advice in student course selection and its impact on college selection.
Provide college materials such as catalogs, viewbooks, applications, directories, and computer software programs to assist students in the college search process.
Serve as an advisory teacher as assigned.
Organize and coordinate college-related workshops and evening programs for parents and students to attend.
Write letters of recommendation on behalf of students for college admission as well as for scholarships, internships and other opportunities.
Provide financial aid forms and applications to students.
Attend workshops concerning college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.
Network, build, and maintain relationships with college admissions officers.
Guide students and others in understanding and utilizing Scoir, the college admission data management system.
Provide guidance and resources and teach tools to navigate the college search and application process.
Guide students and their parents/guardians Schedule and attend college representatives’ presentations in the Fall.
Compile and organize information for the College Counseling Guide for Juniors in the Spring.
Attend college conferences that are held each year.
(UC, CSU, WACAC, NACAC) Maintain a strong working knowledge of colleges and universities, which includes making visits to colleges.
Stay current on higher education changes.
Participate in professional development opportunities that will contribute to the individual’s professional growth and keep the college counseling, counseling, and mentoring programs abreast of current developments in college admissions.
Support Presentation’s co-curricular programs and engage in student life by supporting campus ministry, service, athletics, student leadership, clubs Facilitate college visits for the select student population to local campuses.
Attend weekly department meetings.
Proctor AP exams.
Any additional tasks as assigned by the Director of College Counseling and/or Administration Requirements: Education & Experience Master’s Degree in Counseling or related field.
A minimum of three to five years experience in college admissions or college counseling is preferred.
Understand the college admission process at a variety of institution types and selectivity levels.
Experience working with high school students from diverse faith, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.

Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
