Position Summary
Provide a positive environment for campers to learn and develop lifelong skills.
Assists the Summer Teacher and providing support to the students in the classroom.
He/she shall be responsible for maintaining the physical and emotional safety of the campers.
Hours of work are Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 12:15 pm.
Completed 11th grade with proof of attendance
Proven experience in a particular field or academic area
Experience working in an academic or camp environment
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with activities to promote camper self-esteem and encourage camper success.
Work independently and with the teacher to meet the established goals of the camp.
Follow the class schedule as directed by teacher.
Provide diligent supervision of campers during assigned duties (morning recess and lunch).
Meet deadlines set by the Summer Principal.
Set a good example for campers and others including, punctuality, dress, language and behavior.
Work with teacher to provide a positive environment for campers to learn and develop.
Assist teacher with set-up and preparation of class projects and activities.
Assist teacher with classroom supervision of all activities.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Instruct and assist campers as needed.
Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements
Ability to communicate and work with campers in the class, and provide necessary academic instruction and direction to campers.
Ability to assist teacher in communicating and training campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the position.
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid and emergency responses.
Cognitive and communication abilities to aide the teacher in conducting the academic class to achieve camper development objectives.
Working Conditions
May be subject to extended periods of time standing or walking.
Majority of time may be spent outside resulting in exposure to extremes in either heat or cold as weather and temperatures vary.
Lift equipment/supplies weighing 20 pounds.
Stand up and reach, bend down to interact with children.
No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid and emergency responses.
Cognitive and communication abilities to safely supervise and manage students while at play.
