Santa Clara University seeks an experienced and innovative leader who will work as a campus-wide, collaborative partner to enhance/expand the University's commitment to student well-being.
This position focuses on the institution's commitment to providing transformative health offerings that meet the needs of an ever-changing student body.
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Student Life, the AVP will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the effective provision of high-quality health and psychological services to students that reduce barriers to learning and create opportunities for greater academic achievement and student success.
Together with unit leaders, the AVP will strengthen, expand, and leverage existing programs to create and foster a safe, healthy, and supportive campus environment.

POSITION PURPOSE The AVP serves as a senior member of the Vice Provost's leadership team and a collaborative partner to campus colleagues to develop and implement programs and services designed to advance SCU's commitment to holistic well-being, in particular student psychological and physical well-being.
They will be responsible for engaging the campus community in creating, strengthening, and maintaining a culture of holistic well-being that supports students in order for them to be successful.
The AVP is a strategic leader and is responsible for providing leadership, management, and oversight for the personnel, finances and operations within the unit.
They will be responsible for providing direction and guidance that relies upon data and the expertise of the staff; developing a shared vision in a manner that is collaborative and inclusive of voices across the department and institution; identifying strategies while looking ahead to the future; and supporting the broader educational mission of the University.
The AVP provides leadership, oversight, vision, and direction to the below units and initiatives and actions and decisions directly impact the long-term success of both the student experience and the organization: Cowell Center Administrative Staff Student Health Services (SHS) Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Wellness Center (WC) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Student Health Insurance Program B.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Leadership/Supervision Oversee, provide leadership for, and set priorities for the Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and the Wellness Center (37 person team, including medical staff, mental health clinicians, prevention and education administrators and administrative staff), as noted below.
Actively and collaboratively lead to create a positive work environment that promotes respect, compassion, and growth.
Provide performance evaluation of those directly supervised according to University standards and policies.
Provide leadership and direction for the Centers' collaboration in University strategic initiatives as these relate to health, counseling and well-being services.
Provide leadership for the Center's work with faculty, staff, administrators, parents and external constituents in response to student needs.

Department Management Oversee staff recruitment, hiring, onboarding, supervision, establishment of performance goals and expectations and performance evaluations.
Oversee the assignment and management of annual budget allocations, ensuring that budget decisions align with unit priorities and the Division's strategic initiatives, and as may be required, participate in fundraising related to areas of responsibility.
Respond as appropriate to local, state, and federal policy changes impacting the area of responsibilities.
Stay abreast and effectively communicate applicable changes and updates in state and federal policies and regulations.
Represent, and/or ensure representation of the University through active involvement and leadership in regional and national associations.
Encourage and support participation of staff in appropriate professional development offerings.
Oversee primary care and prevention services in SHS to meet medical quality assurance.

Establish, maintain, and continuously improve programs that provide high quality health and psychological services.
Oversee the Wellness Center and encourage opportunities for expansion and collaboration with the campus community.

Provide logistical and administrative oversight to the Emergency Medical Services squad and partner with internal and external medical advisors.
Participate in the university's emergency preparedness and response planning programs.
Represent, or ensure representation of, the Centers at campus events such as Orientation and Welcome Weekend.

Campus and Division Engagement Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships, including but not limited to colleagues within the Division of Student Life, across campus(es) and with constituency groups.
Provide leadership and direction for the Center's collaboration in University strategic initiatives as these relate to health and counseling services.
Provide leadership for the Center's work with faculty, staff, administrators, parents and external constituents in response to student needs and public health issues.
Provide consultation and guidance for crisis/liaison services, including intervention in emergencies and highly acute situations.
Participate and lead review, revision, development, and administration of policies and procedures associated with student health and well-being.
Provide consultation to faculty, staff, and students' families.
Participate in division-wide assessment efforts to track progress on goals and student learning outcomes.
Maintain abreast with higher education issues and effective student development practices related to state and federal regulations, compliance and legal issues.
