POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Trains member clients in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels.
Effectively works with the member client on setting goals and working towards achieving them.
Modifies as needed to meet varied health, ability and cultural needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational personal training session as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
Maintain at least one active client and/ or willing to accept new clients when assigned
Work at least 6 hours in the floor as a Wellness Coach
Keeps accurate personal records.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
Attends all staff meetings
Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Visual and auditory ability to observe and to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
Ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Ability to climb, push, and pull.
Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a commitment to the YMCA mission and its core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring as well as a commitment to building developmental assets in adults and youth.
Additionally, the candidate should value diversity, youth, and have a broad vision of health and wellness that is enhanced by relationship building.
Currently certified as a personal trainer from NASM, ACSM, ACE or other nationally accredited organization recognized by the YMCA.
Bachelor's degree in physiology, health promotion, athletic training, kinesiology or related field is preferred.
Prefer at least one year verifiable experience as a personal trainer (or the combination of education, training and experience commensurate with others in this position)
A combination of education, experience and certifications requisite to meet industry standards
Completion of a satisfactory audition.
Currently certified in CPR/AED
Certified in YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning (or equivalent certification with another organization) as well as YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles (or be certified within 90 days of hire)
Prefer bi-lingual or multi-lingual.
