ENGINEERING INSTRUCTOR San Jose/Evergreen Community College District Close/First Review Date: 02/18/2024 Campus Location: Evergreen Valley College Position Description: POSITION SUMMARY This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE, (10 Months) Tenure Track position as Instructor of Engineering in the Division of Math, Science and Engineering located at Evergreen Valley College.
Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.
This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1\.
Teach lecture and lab-based courses in Engineering and Engineering Technology, preparing students for transfer to four-year engineering schools.
1\.
Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.
2\.
Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.
3\.
Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.
4\.
Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.
5\.
Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.
6\.
Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.
7\.
Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.
g.
grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.
8\.
Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.
9\.
Foster a professional work and learning environment.
10\.
Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Required Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Masters in any field of Engineering OR Bachelors in any of the above AND Masters in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry or Geology OR *The equivalent.
(NOTE: A bachelors in any field of engineering with a professional engineers license is an alternative qualification for this discipline).
Desired Qualifications: Desired Qualifications: 1\.
Masters degree or higher in Engineering.
2\.
Educational background in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, complemented by practical industry experience within the engineering field.
3\.
Demonstrated interest in teaching all Engineering courses offered at Evergreen Valley College.
4\.
Experience teaching Engineering or related college-level courses.
5\.
Commitment to and experience in laboratory instruction.
6\.
Practice student-centered and equity-minded pedagogies in accordance with established course outlines and use high-impact strategies that serve all students including underserved and disproportionately impacted students (i.
e.
, Latinx, African Ancestry, Filipinx, Veterans, Foster Youth, Disabled Students, First-Generation Students, LGBTQ+, and Low-income students).
7\.
Experience developing innovative course curriculum and assessments, including the design of hands-on laboratory exercises, aimed at achieving course objectives and learning outcomes.
8\.
Demonstrated experience in employing up-to-date, evidence-based pedagogy within online and hybrid teaching modalities, utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System.
Preference given to candidates with evidence of formal training in online teaching.
9\.
Experience with department and division activities such as Guided Pathways, strategic planning, grant writing, data gathering/reporting, department program review, course scheduling and conflict mitigation, advising student clubs, outreach to high schools to attract students to engineering and science, and associate faculty recruiting and mentorship.
10\.
Willingness and ability to teach in another STEM discipline, such as mathematics, physics, or computer science.
11\.
Bilingual abilities, desirable.

Salary Range: $89,273 to $122,546 Entry Level Annual Salary (10 Month, Academic Salary Schedule 2023-2024); Maximum Salary Potential $159,001.
Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.
