Description
Under supervision, initially in a training capacity, to perform professional library work related to electronic resources and technology.
The list established through this recruitment may be used to fill other Associate Electronic Resources Librarian vacancies as they occur.
Typical Tasks
Assists in administering the public and staff web services, including the library's website and social media, as well as staff resources, including the intranet, shared virtual collaboration spaces, etc.
;
Implements time-sensitive updates to website information;
Designs and/or participates in the design of web pages and performs layout work, linking, and all other tasks required to create, develop, and expand web pages and services;
Provides a simplified means for library staff to place content into the web environment with minimum effort and training;
Provides staff training on web services and web-based subscription services;
Participates in the design and maintenance of the Public Access Catalog;
Works with vendors to configure and troubleshoot virtual services;
Participates in the maintenance of the RPA (Remote Patron Authentication) system;
Identifies, develops, and implements technology-related public equipment, initiatives, programs, and services;
Keeps informed of new developments in information technology;
Evaluates selected software and hardware products and assesses their feasibility;
Participates in evaluating current electronic collections and platforms, such as databases and ebooks, selecting and deselecting electronic materials;
Answers reference questions, both in person and via interactive web-based reference interface and webmaster email;
Answers questions from the public and staff regarding functionality of the web environment;
Participates in developing or modifying procedures;
Develops and presents statistical reports on use of electronic resources and the web environment;
Works closely and effectively with technical services staff, systems office staff, and the Graphic Designer;
Participates in professional organizations and attends workshops and meetings;
May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker, as required;
Performs other related duties as required.
Employment Standards
Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities:
Training and Experience Note: The required knowledge and abilities are attained through possession of a Master's Degree in Library Science or its recognized equivalent from a library school accredited by the American Library Association.
Special Requirements
Ability to travel to alternate locations in the course of work.
If driving, possession of a valid California driver’s license prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County driver authorization.

Common office software applications, such as email, word processing, and internet browsers;

Principles and techniques of online services selection and evaluation to establish balanced online library collections;

Advise and instruct patrons and staff in the use of library electronic resources;
